Seymour Chotiner, age 87 of Live Oak, Florida passed away Thursday, April 21, 2011, at Surrey Place Care Center in Live Oak, FL following a lengthy illness. Born June 5, 1923 in Bronx, NY and grew up in New Rochelle, NY graduating from New Rochelle Senior High School in 1941. He attended St. John’s University in Brooklyn, NY School of Accounting and graduated in 1946. He was a retired member of the New York and Florida Bar. Seymour moved to Pompano Beach, FL in 1960 where he owned and operated Sands Harbor Inn, was a chicken farmer in Bear Creek, N.C. before becoming a licensed Real Estate Broker, Real Estate Appraiser and Certified County Court Mediator. During the 1950’s he served as Executive Secretary to the Mayor of Mount Vernon, NY, Director of the Census, and Civil Service Commissioner of Mount Vernon, director of the Strategic Material for the Office of Price Stabilization during the Korean War and also served as a member of the Suwannee River Water Management Board and was a retired self-employed Counselor at Law and a member of the Temple Israel in Tallahassee, FL.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Elizabeth Hubschman, two sons, Alan S. Chotiner and Robert P. Chotiner.
Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Deloris Vann Chotiner, Live Oak, FL; two sons, David M. Chotiner, Mills River, NC and Gary Chotiner, Ocala, FL; one stepson, Scott McCullough,O’Brien, FL; one step daughter, Lori Jones, Williston, FL; one sister, Lorraine Wallis, Summers, NY; eight grandchildren, Adam S. Chotiner, Sarah E. Chotiner, Marie Chotiner, Natalie Chotiner, Jessica Chotiner, Hillary Jones, Bradley Jones and Mallory Jones, two great grandchildren, Zoey and Jessie Chotiner.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 23, 2011 in the Brody Harris Memorial Chapel with Mr. A.P. “Buddy” Nott officiating. Interment will be held in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York.
