Arnold Brim, 91 of Live Oak, Florida was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 1, 2008. A native of Live Oak, FL, born on September 9,1916 to Johnny and Josephine Brim, he retired from the United States Post Office after 39 years of service where he was Mail Carrier of the Year for the South Eastern Division in 1978. He graduated from the Southern School of Printing in Nashville, TN, as a Pressman in 1936 shortly after graduating from Suwannee High School. He was president of the Suwannee Baptist Brotherhood Association which included 37 churches for 15 years. He was a Times-Union Carrier for 18 years and a member of Barrett Masonic Lodge #43 F&AM for over 50 years and Secretary for the Masonic Lodge for 7 years. He was a former member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Elks Lodge and Knights of Pythias. He was a regular on the Suwannee River Jamboree in the 1950’s and was the leader and organizer of his own band, the Suwannee River Play Boys, for 20 years. Arnold was an accomplished player of the dobro and the steel guitar and a member of the Good Ole Boys Musical Group for 8 years. In addition, he was a member of the Suwannee Bluegrass Association for 10 years and played at the Spirit of the Suwannee Picking Shed on a regular basis. He was program director of the Senior Citizens Club of which he was a member for many years. He was a deacon at Westwood Baptist Church for 25 years and Chairman of the Deacons for 3 years. Arnold loved music and never missed an opportunity to play. For the last 15 years of his life, he played music as a volunteer at many places including: the Veterans Hospital, Suwannee Health Care, Surrey Place, Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Dowling Park, three nursing homes in Mayo, three nursing homes in Lake City, many churches and civic clubs and Senior Day at the Suwannee County Fair. He frequently met with other musicians for jam sessions and he and the “Not Brothers” Band were invited to play at many social events. He was a kind and generous man who always tried to help others. Arnold was preceded in death by a daughter, Rita Loretta Brim, and beloved wife of 54 years, Alma Juanita Ammons Brim, grandson, William Eugene Taylor, brothers, Charles Edward Brim, Vernon Virgil Brim, Louis Phillip Brim, and sister, Mable Elizabeth Stewart. He is survived by a daughter, Glenda Brim Taylor, Live Oak, FL; one son, Daniel Stassen Brim and wife, Susan, Fernandina Beach, FL; grandson, Thomas Brim, Fernandina Beach, FL. Funeral services were held Friday, April 4, 2008 at 10:00 am at Westwood Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Deas officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery with full Masonic Rites at the graveside.
