Cuba Marie Hodek, 90 of Live Oak, Florida entered into her eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008, at her home. Born in Williamsburg, KY, her parents Mr. & Mrs. H.R. Parsons, Sr., and three other siblings moved to Live Oak, FL in 1926 where she attended school and graduated from Suwannee High School in 1935.
Cuba met Henry (Hank) Hodek, from Orlando, FL and they got married on June 1, 1947 in Live Oak at the First Presbyterian Church, then located on Ohio Avenue. They had two daughters, and were planning to build a house in Live Oak. However, her husband, Hank, was called back into the U.S. Air Force; thus Cuba became a military wife for 18 years, which she and her family enjoyed. In 1969 they moved back to Live Oak after her husband retired from the Air Force.
Cuba was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She was an active member of Community Presbyterian Church of Live Oak as well as a former member of the Garden Club and the Live Oak Woman’s Club.
Cuba loved her family, her church family, her friends, but foremost of all her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived her life to reflect that love, and set a good example for others.
Those left to miss her include her husband of 61 years, Hank Hodek, Live Oak, FL; two daughters, Dana (Dan) Chandler, Live Oak, FL; Glaythia (Tommye) Collins, Live Oak, FL; one brother, Russell (Irene) Parsons, Ormond Beach, FL; six grandchildren, Tim Chandler, Tami (Doug) Cheesman, Jennifer Collins, Aaron Collins, Cody Collins and Adam (Jency) Collins, one great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held, Wednesday, Sept. 10th from 5 to 7 PM at Harris Funeral Home, 932 N. Ohio Avenue.
A home-going celebration was held Thursday, Sept. 11th at 11:00 am in the Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. Randy Wilding and Rev. Jim Walkup officiating. Interment followed in the Macedonia Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Community Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 206, Live Oak, FL 32064.
