Dorothy Wright Harris December 26, 1923 May 7, 2009 Dorothy Wright Harris, 85, Live Oak, Florida, passed away early Thursday morning, May 7, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park following complications related to Alzheimer’ disease. The Miami, FL native resided most of her life in Live Oak. Mrs. Harris graduated from Miami High School in 1941. A direct descendant of Orville and Wilbur Wright, “The Wright Brothers”. She was employed as a secretary with the North Florida Telephone Company for many years before becoming partners with her late husband Brody C. Harris, Jr. as owners of Harris Funeral Home. Dorothy was a Past President of the Live Oak Junior Woman’s Club 1955-1957, member and Past President of the Live Oak Woman’s Club 1962-1963, Past District Director Florida Federation of Woman’s Clubs 1960, Live Oak Zoning Board having been a member of the original board serving for thirteen years, Secretary to Banks & Loan Committee Florida House of Representatives 1968, was the driving force behind the creation of the Suwannee County Recreation Department. The Suwannee River Woman’s Club has presented the Dorothy Wright Harris Dependable Award at the Miss Suwannee Valley Pageant each year in her honor since 1999. She was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church. She was predeceased by her first husband, Donald Hanson USN and husband, Brody Clifton Harris, Jr., two sisters, Cathy Redfearn, and Agnes Watson; and her brother, Halford S. Wright. Survivors include two sons, Chip (Debbie) Harris, Live Oak; Halford (Paula) Harris, Pensacola, FL; two daughters, Darlyne (Richard) Beaudoin, Jacksonville, FL; Kathy (Sam) Carter, Live Oak; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Visitation was held Monday, May 11th from 5 to 7 pm at Harris Funeral Home. Funeral Services were held, 11:00 am Tuesday May 12, 2009 at the Community Presbyterian Church with Rev. David McKeithen, Rev. Randy Wilding & Rev. Jim Walkup officiating. As per her wishes the interment was held later that evening in the Live Oak Cemetery with the casket being lowered as the sun set.
