Edward Douglas Wheaton, born July 7, 1956 in Saint John, New Burnswick, Canada to Edward Maurice Wheaton and Mamie Irene (Kirkpatrick) Wheaton. He died unexpectedly on Sunday, July 16, 2023 of a massive coronary event in Live Oak.
He is survived by daughter, Ashley Wheaton (Rob) and Caylin, granddaughter, Gavin, grandson & Liam of Alabama; daughter, Emily Lauren Wheaton (Jeffry) and grandson, Riley of Katy, Texas; sister Heather Irene Hale, Alabama and two nieces, Stephanie and Laura; sister Linda Margaret DuBose (Jim) of Sebring, FL; two nephews, Will & Kevin and one niece, Alisha.
Doug was known around Live Oak for his never ending kindness to everyone he met. He lived in Live Oak for the past seven years after he retired from Shoreline Marine in Riverview new Tampa.
He was an artist and built more than 1000 fire pits, beautifully carved with a laser.
Many people know him as the “Peanut and Wood Man” from highway 129.
He built butterfly benches, swings, smokers, trailers, campers, tables, Texaco signs and the list goes on.
In the past 30 days, he took both grandsons, fishing and boating and made them did post holes for his new pole barn.
Doug moved from Saint John New Brunswick Canada to Tampa, FL when he was seven years old. He graduated from Hillsborough High School in Tampa. He attended USF and then worked for A.P. Green refectory in Texas before building marine docks for Shoreline Marine where he retired from.
Doug knew the value of a relationship with God and put his family at the top of his list of important things every day.
A celebration of Doug’s life was held, Thursday, July 20, 2023 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM in the Brody Harris Memorial Chapel.
