Evelyn Palmer, age 84, of Quitman, GA formerly of Folkston, GA passed away Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta, GA following a brief illness. Evelyn was born in Live Oak, FL to Osmond and Winifred Palmer on April 17, 1938. She grew up as the oldest of three children and the Big Sister to both Calvin and Patsy. She was a majorette in the Suwannee High School marching band and graduated from there in 1956. Evelyn loved to dance and was an avid student in Marilyn’s School of Dance and voted as Best Dancer in the Senior Favorites for the 1956 SHS yearbook. She was also crowned as Miss Suwannee County in the pageant that year. Following high school graduation, she and some friends attended a business college in Jacksonville, FL. She married Walter Oliver and they had two children: Tammy and Walt. Evelyn was involved in seasonal secretarial work at the tobacco warehouse during the summers and a telephone operator with the North Florida Telephone Company. She loved playing Bridge and drinking coffee. Evelyn loved plants and flowers and she and her husband, Jimmy Eaton, owned a plant nursery in Folkston for many years. Prior to her retirement she worked in a florist there and did lovely flower arrangements for many special occasions.
She is survived by her children: Tammy England, Quitman, GA and Walt Oliver, Rome, GA; one sister, Patsy (Bill) Schossler, Cedar Key, FL; grandsons Austin (Raquel) England of Thomasville, Ga and Cole Oliver of Houston, TX; niece Leah (Andy) Harrell and nephew John (Kerry) Palmer, nephews Brody (Aimee) Harris and Jaret Holmes; great grandchildren Ayden, Audrey, and Anderson England; and many great nieces and nephews with whom she enjoyed visiting during family gatherings and family chats on-line. She also leaves behind her longtime friend, Myra Blalock, Folkston, GA.
Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, her husband and the father of her children Walter B. Oliver, III; husband James L. Eaton, Sr., husband Roy Dillard Crabtree, her brother, Calvin Palmer, daughter-in-law Debbie Oliver and son-in-law Andy England.
A special thanks to her caregivers at home, Tiffany Hunter, Cynthia Marshall and Dondra Holloway. We are so appreciative of the compassionate care of all the staff at Hospice of South Georgia and Langdale Hospice House.
A private memorial service with family will be held January 8, 2023 in Live Oak, FL.
