Gentry Robert James, age 94, of Live Oak, FL passed away Monday, April 25 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL. He was a native and life-long resident of Live Oak and a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during WWII as a Drill Sergeant. He participated in action against the enemy at Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands from June 10, 1945 to June 21, 1945 and participated in the occupation of Japan from August 30, 1945 to December 2, 1945. He was issued the honorable service lapel button at Camp Lejeune, NC on January 4, 1946 and awarded the Good Conduct Medal, November 11, 1944. Following his years of dedicated military service, Gentry moved back to his hometown and worked as a Beverage Officer for the State of Florida and was a member of the Suwannee Quarter Back Club. Gentry enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the First Advent Christian Church He is survived by two sons, Bobby James, Jasper, GA; Everett James, Temecula, CA; one brother, Charles Levy (Kyoko) James, Deland, FL; one sister, Emily Yaxley, Blue Ridge, GA; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the church. Funeral services were held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the First Advent Christian Church with Rev. Tim Carver officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.
