Georgia Anna Sims, 92 of Day, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in Doctors Memorial Hospital in Perry, FL following a lengthy illness. The Flushing, N.Y. native moved to Day, FL in 1953 from Chamblee, GA. Georgia Anna, wife of Al Sims began working for the War Department Second Service Command ASF Governors Island, NY Civilian Personnel Division 50 Broadway in 1943. She was in charge of initial distribution. She was overseer of packers, distributors, typist, addressographer. Some soldiers were brought in daily from Bentwood Hospital. These soldiers were being treated for various problems such as battle fatigue and rehabilitation. She distributed all publications coming from first service command and the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Anything coming in for distribution over Bibles came here. Georgia Anna told of the event of General Patton’s death and how this had to be handled and distributed. Georgiana and Al Sims moved back to Georgia (due to the cold) in 1946 and the moved to Lafayette County in Nov. 1953. She was a nurse for Advent Christian Village for twenty years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 205, Mayo, FL where she served as chaplain for many years and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church of Live Oak, FL. Survivors include one son, Howard Sims, May, FL; one sister, Elizabeth Johnson, New Rochelle, NY; two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Memorial services were held Monday, July 21st at 2:00 pm in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Michael Pendergraft officiating. As per her wishes finalization was by cremation with her ashes being buried next to her husband in the Day Cemetery in Day, FL.
