“Chief” Howard Wright, 78 of Live Oak, Florida passed away Monday, March 30, 2009, at his home in Live Oak, FL following a lengthy illness. He was a native and life long resident of Live Oak, FL. He started working for the Live Oak Fire Department in 1952 and became the Fire Chief in 1967 in which capacity he served until his retirement in 1994. He was a member and president in 1976 of the Florida Fire Chiefs Association and was presented with their Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. He was honored by the State of Florida in 1980 as Fire Chief of The Year, the Suwannee County Chamber of Commerce 1993 Citizen of the Year, and was a charter board member of the Suwannee River Economic Council; he served many years on the Christmas on the Square parade committee and with the Salvation Army Suwannee County Chapter. He was member of the Live Oak Lions Club and was made a Life Member in 2004 for outstanding services rendered as a Lion. He was a member of and served as a deacon for the First Baptist Church, Live Oak, Fl.
Howard was a loving, caring, and giving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Marian Wright, Live Oak, FL; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda & David Wood of Live Oak, FL; Robyn & Alan Bonds, Live Oak, FL;one brother, Richard (Jean) Wright, Summerfield, FL; four grandchildren, Leigh Wood, Logan Bonds, Bo Bonds, and Rylee Bonds all of Live Oak, FL.
Funeral services were held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Herrington officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.
