Iris Rachel Bland DeMaupassant, age 95, of Live Oak, FL passed away Thursday, January 29, 2015 at Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL following a brief illness. She was born in Live Oak, FL and lived in Gainesville, FL for twenty-five years before moving back to her home town. She worked in the Clerk’s Office for many years and was a member and Past Treasurer of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She loved card games, gardening and cooking. She also loved animals and had many pets during her life time. Iris was a wonderful, loving and caring mother and grandmother who adored her family with all her heart. She was predeceased by her parents, James Walter and Alice Howard Bland, husband, William DeMaupassant, her son, Walter Elbert (Buddy) Rowe, her grandson, Jason Scott Guynn, a very close sister, Leacy Kent, seven other brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews and close friend, Elbert Hammrick. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Alice Hall of Pensacola Beach, FL; four grandchildren, Conna Duch, Gina Berlin, Kelly Knotts and Joshua Rowe, ten great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be held, Friday, February 6th from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services were held 11:00 A.M, Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar McCray officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Suwannee County Animal Shelter, 11150 144th Street, McAlpin, FL 32062.
