James "Jim" Downs

James “Jim” Downs December 30, 1931*October 19, 2011 James “Jim” Downs, age 79, of Live Oak, Florida passed away early Wednesday morning October 19, 2011 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. He was a native of Jacksonville, FL moving to Live Oak in 1980 from Hialeah, FL. Jim served twenty years in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a captain. He was awarded the Air Medal and many other decorations, medals, badges and citations. He was a member of the Gideons International and the Orange Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Elizabeth C. Downs; beloved son, Robert A. Downs and devoted daughter-in-law, Laurie Downs. Survivors include one son James “Scott” Downs, one daughter, Catherine (Mike) Banks all of Live Oak, FL; two sisters, Mary Vest and Betty Belton both of Jacksonville, FL; eleven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Visitation was held, Monday, October 24th from 5 to 7 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services were held, 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Orange Baptist Church with Rev. J.H. Brown, Rev. Morgan Campbell and Rev. Bobby McCray officiating. Military Honors followed in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Gideons International, 303 W.
