Joan Holmes Radford

Joan Holmes Radford, age 81, of Live Oak, FL passed away Monday, April 29, 2024 at Shands UF in Gainesville, Florida following a courageous battle with cancer. She was a native and life-long resident of Live Oak where she attended the Suwannee County schools, graduating from Suwannee High, class of 1961.  She attended Florida State University and later obtained her Master’s Degree in education from Nova University and became a teacher with the Suwannee County School System.  Joan was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church and a member of the Live Oak Women’s Club, Chamber of Commerce and Writer’s Inc. of Mayo.  She was an amazing writer and has published five books.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and Sarah Holmes; her son, Barry Roberson; a grandson, Dawson Harrell and a sister, Robbie Roberts.

She is survived by three daughters, Melahn (Rob) Harrell, Live Oak, FL; Sherri (Keith) Howell, Madison, FL and Mary (Jar) Witzke, Colorado; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, May 3, 2024 in the Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Rev. Wally Weaver officiating.  Private family interment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 at the church.
