Joe Hiney

Joe Hiney January 19, 1923 May 27, 2009 Joe Hiney, 86 of Townsend, GA passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick, GA following a lengthy illness. He was a native of Sioux City, Iowa and had resided in Townsend, GA for the past thirty years. Joe was a Sgt. First Class U.S. Army veteran having served during WWII the Korean War and the Vietnam Conflict where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He loved to fish and most of his life was an avid fisherman until his health didn’t permit. He loved gardening and raised and sold exotic birds. He was a member of the Townsend Church of God Church in Townsend, GA. Survivors include one son, Tom Hiney, Jonesboro, GA; two daughters, Linda Clifton, Townsend, GA; Elaine Bates, Griffin, GA; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and one great greatgrandchild. Visitation was held Friday, May 29th from 6 to 7 PM at Harris Funeral Home. Graveside services were held 11:00 AM Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Rosemary Baptist Church with Rev. Jay McSwain officiating.
