Kathleen Marion Carter, age 77, of Live Oak, FL, passed away Sunday evening, March 12, 2023, at her home surrounding by her loving family.  Kathy was born in Miami, FL to the late Brody C. Harris, Jr. and Dorothy Wright Harris on December 14, 1945.  She married the love of her life, Sam Carter on July 26, 1968 at the Oak Harbor Washington Naval Air station in Whidbey Island.   She attended college at North Florida College in Madison, FL for LPN and Lake City Community College for her Registered Nurse degree.  She worked as a nurse for over fifty years, working in many positions in hospitals including managing the emergency department at the Suwannee County Hospital, and thirty years in geriatrics with most of those years at the Suwannee Health Care Center, as director of nursing and as a traveling nurse consultant where she helped long term care facilities across the state to establish procedures to perform at state requirements.  She was a former member of the Live Oak Junior Women’s Club and played the piano for the Miss Suwannee County pageants for many years.  She worked to establish the foster parent association of Live Oak and also worked with state legislators to pass legislation for burial rights of foster children.  She was an honorary member of the Live Oak Rotary Club, where she played the piano for their weekly meetings, and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church where she also played the piano.  The things that were most important to Kathy, was her family, her faith, pets, music, art, fishing and being an avid Florida State fan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Brody C. Harris, Jr. and Dorothy Wright Harris and her brother, Brody “Chip” Harris, III.

She is survived by her loving husband, Sam Carter, Live Oak, FL; one son, Corey (Whitney) Carter, Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Teresa (Gary) Ehrisman, Pierre, SD; one sister, Darlyne (Richard) Beaudoin, Palm Coast, FL; one brother, Halford (Paula) Harris, Live Oak, FL; sister-in-law, Debbie Harris, Live Oak, FL; four grandchildren, Christoher Lane Walker, II, Caleb Ehrisman, Joshua Ehrisman and Nathan Ehrisman; one great grandchild, Christopher Lane Walker, III.

Funeral services were held, 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 16, 2023 at the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Carter and Rev. David McKeithan officiating.  Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church.
