Lavera Smehil

LaVera Elizabeth Smehil, age 97, of O’Brien, FL, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at the North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville, FL.  She was born in Avalon, PA moving to O’Brien, FL in 1983 from Bradenton, FL.  She worked as a registered nurse and was a member of the Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville, FL.  LaVera loved working in her yard, gardening, reading and cooking.

She was predeceased by her parents, Basil Paul and Marie Theresa Streeter; her husband, John Smehil; one son, John Eric Smehil; one daughter, Patricia Svajgert and a son-in-law, Matthew Svajgert.

She is survived by one son, Dean (Joan) Smehil, Live Oak, FL; two daughters, Judith (Charles W.) Nelson, Palm Harbor, FL; Penny  (Danny) Wren, Tampa, FL; twelve grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.             Funeral services will be held, 1:00 PM, Friday, January 19, 2024, in the Brody Harris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Dan Wren officiating.  Interment will follow in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
