James Luel Poole, Sr., age 96, of Live Oak FL, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at the Suwannee Healthcare Center in Live Oak, FL following a lengthy illness.  He was a native and life-long resident of Live Oak, FL working as a self-employed log truck driver and dirt hauler for many years.  Luel proudly served his country during WWII and European War as a Private First Class in the U.S. Army.  He was a member and Emeritus Deacon of the Westwood Baptist Church and instrumental in starting the first church bus services.  He was also the Sunday School Superintendent and served on the Hospitality Baptist Committee.  He was a longtime member of the Morocco Temple, Live Oak Shrine Club and 63 year member of the Masonic Lodge #166.  He loved cooking for the football team and in earlier years, he cooked alongside, Duke McCallister for the Florida Sheriff’s Boys Ranch on many occasions.  He enjoyed fishing and spending mornings having breakfast at Hardee’s with his family and friends.  His most enjoyable moments were helping others.

He was predeceased by his wife, Willie Blanche Poole, two sons, Kenneth Poole and Larry Poole.

He is survived by two sons, Jimmy (Laurece) Poole, Lake City, FL; Jerry (Pam) Poole, Live Oak, FL; one daughter, Patricia (Robert) Wynn, Cross Roads, FL; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held, 5:00 PM, Friday, May 7, 2021 at Westwood Baptist Church with Rev. Bruce Branch and Rev. Louis Medaris officiating.  Interment will follow in the Live Oak Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the church.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Westwood Baptist Church, 920 Eleventh St., Live Oak, 32064 or the Church of the Nazarene, 915 Church Ave., SW, Live Oak, 32064.
