Lula Lee Herring, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023, at her home in Live Oak, Florida. She was 84 years old.
A woman of strong faith, Lula was born in Belmont, Florida, the eighth child of Jesse Franklin and Sarah Touchton Fouraker. She and her siblings grew up on a farm in White Springs, Florida.
While she held several jobs during her life, her primary role was in loving and caring for others. Her faith in God was first and foremost in her life. For many years, she was a greeter at First Baptist Church of Live Oak ensuring those new to the community or church were warmly welcomed and many times developing life-long friendships. She also had many friends at Philadelphia Baptist Church where she and her husband, Gerald, attended services as well.
She loved to travel across the country meeting new people and seeing new places. She and Gerald were active in Campers on Mission, sharing their love of Jesus Christ while participating in mission activities. On their last mission trip, she was grateful to be able to lead at least one person to Christ. Lula also loved to crochet; learning this skill at the age of 8. She taught many others to crochet and loved to make tablecloths, bedspreads, and especially baby blankets. Lula was also a lifelong avid fisherwoman and was always ready to go fishing with her family and friends and especially enjoyed teaching others to fish. She had a special love for teaching children these skills as well.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Gerald Edward Herring; their children, Glenda Box Musgrove (Jamie), Lisa Rene’ Valentine (Paul), Becky Herring Long (Jason) and David Herring; eight grandchildren, Jared Musgrove (Jennifer), Mandy Musgrove, Nicholas Valentine (Chrissy), Mathew Valentine, Shawn Valentine (Michelle), Mackenzie Long, Bryant Long, and Bryson Long; three great grandsons, Tyler Valentine, Landen Nielsen and Andrew Musgrove; one sister, Avis Fouraker Cason and one sister-in-law Martha Helen Fouraker. She is preceded in death by her two brothers, Pearsall and Franklin; sisters, Mary Fouraker Harris, and Amy Fouraker Claxton.
Lula was known for her big smile and loving heart. She will be dearly missed by all.
