Lynda, our charming tornado of energy, sashayed her way into the great beyond on July 24, 2024, at the age of 77 at Haven Hospice Care Center. While COPD may have claimed her body, her unquenchable spirit continues to dazzle wherever she goes
Born many moons ago on the sunny shores of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lynda’s life was a vibrant rollercoaster filled with laughter, love, and a hefty dose of Texas stubbornness. As a Navy brat (thanks to her mom marrying a sailor from Florida), she became a pro at moving. But even a seasoned traveler can get fed up with packing boxes, so she eventually returned to Texas to finish high school in one place. After graduation, she reconnected with her dad and moved to Midland, Texas, where she met and married her first husband, Jimmy Jean.
Midland’s weather was a mix of sizzling summers and mushy winters. So, in 1969, Jimmy, armed with his best “you’ll love Florida” pitch, whisked her off to sunny, green Florida, much to her protest of “No, no, no! I hate Florida!” But off they went, settling in Lake City with their young daughter, Wendi. They soon moved to Live Oak, where they planted their roots and welcomed their son, Timothy, in 1971.
Lynda had a big heart for her community, especially when it came to her beloved First Presbyterian Church, which later evolved into Community Presbyterian Church. She spent over two decades molding young minds in Sunday school, all the while making them laugh and think.
Her plot twist came when she married Harvey Carroll Jr., stepping into the role of a farmer’s wife and bonus mom to his three children. In 1977, they added another Carroll to the mix with the arrival of their daughter, Harvest.
Lynda wasn’t just a farmer’s wife; she was a jack-of-all-trades. She ran Carroll’s Laundromat for nearly twenty years, managed the largest herd of Texas Longhorns in North Florida, cut and raked hay fields, and even harvested Suwannee County’s first-ever strawberries. She was also instrumental in getting Carroll’s Pinestraw up and running.
A true force of nature—stubborn, headstrong, loving, and funny—Lynda had a knack for delivering sarcastic quips that could lighten even the darkest moments. She’s now reunited with her two sisters and parents, leaving behind a remarkable legacy through her three children: Wendi Jean, Tim Jean, and Harvest Carroll, along with six granddaughters, one grandson, six great-grandsons, three sisters, and one brother.
Lynda’s life was a vivid tapestry of bold patterns and unforgettable moments, reflecting her resilience, love, and irrepressible sass. She’ll be remembered with smiles, stories, and deep gratitude for the joy and humor she brought into our lives.
Her final journey is lovingly escorted by pallbearers Dale Touchton, Tommy Whittington, Preston Carroll, Chris Cheney, Wayne Kelley, and Buddy Williams.
Funeral services for our favorite force of nature was held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, in the Brody Harris Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Tim Carver officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery, where she’ll finally get some well-deserved peace after her ceaseless adventure of a life.
Visitation was held from 12:00 to 1:00 PM, right before the service, giving you a chance to drop by, share a story or two, and help us keep the tears to a minimum (Lynda would want us to keep it upbeat, after all). We’re sure she’ll be listening, rolling her eyes, and probably making a sarcastic remark or two from wherever she is.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this new chapter—because, let’s face it, we could all use a bit of extra support following her spirited exit. We’re pretty sure she’s somewhere cracking up the angels with her irrepressible humor and giving them a run for their money!
