Mary Elizabeth Howes, age 85, of Live Oak, FL, passed away Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Suwannee Valley Care Center Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL. She was a native and lifelong resident of Live Oak where she worked as a waitress for the Dixie Grill for many years. Mary loved spending time in her yard and was an avid gardener. She also loved doing needle work when she wasn’t in her beautiful yard working with her flowers. Above all else, what she valued most in life, was the time she spent with her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Hardy and Aleph Evans; her husband, Howard L. Howes, Sr.; her daughter, Hattie Elizabeth Scott; sisters, Minnie Silas, Doris Catlett and Ruby Booths.
She is survived by three sons, Charles Edward McIntosh, Camp Verde, AZ; James Herbert Howes, Cross City, FL and John Douglas (Mary) Howes, Jasper, FL; two daughters, Brenda Gail (Walter) Carroll, Quitman, GA and Margaret Ann (James) Barton, Live Oak, FL; one brother, Bill Evans, Perry, FL; Twelve grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held, 11:00 AM, Friday, May 3, 2019 in the Brody Harris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Susie Horner officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to her services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
