Mary Evelyn Hunter, age 82, of Live Oak, FL, passed away Friday, October 24, 2025, at UF Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. Born March 5, 1943, she was a native and life-long resident of Live Oak, FL. She worked her entire life as a veterinary technician for Burch Animal Hospital and Companion Animal Hospital for over 50 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Live Oak. She was very involved with and served on the board of the Suwannee Valley Humane Society, was an area representative and inspector for the American Donkey and Mule Society, American Association of Spotted Asses, and vice president of the Suwannee Animal Volunteer Endeavor and Disaster Animal Response Team. She was well known as an animal advocate as she spent her entire life caring for rescued animals as well as caring for animals on her farm at Hog Heaven.

She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond Eldridge and Julia Bryson Stokes, sister Shirley Stokes Williams and her husband, Willie Ray Hunter.

She is survived by one daughter, Aimee (Ronnie) Cadle, Lake City, FL and six grandchildren, Ashlyn Purvis, Bryson Halstead, Cayson Davis, Isabella Cadle, Hannah Cadle and Radd Cadle, and one great-grandson, Ryland Halstead.

A memorial service for Evelyn and Willie Ray Hunter will be held at a later date.
