Melba K. Frier Leighton , age 82, of Live Oak, FL, passed away Sunday, April 05, 2020, at the Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City, Florida, following a lengthy illness. She was born in Dothan, Alabama moving to Live Oak in 1973 from Lakeland, Florida. She worked as a Kindergarten teacher in the school system for many years and was a member of Melody Christian Church of Live Oak, FL. Melba was past-president of the Live Oak Garden Club. She loved cooking, gardening and working in her beautiful yard, but most of all she loved doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Doyle Leighton, Live Oak; one son, James R. (Cheri) Lacy, Plant City, FL; one daughter, Cindi (Daniel) Ross, Live Oak, FL; one brother, Moody Frank Tice, Live Oak, FL; four sisters, Cybil Gay and Gail Allen both of Lakeland, FL, Janice (David) Price, Live Oak, FL and Debi (Bert) Chandler, Tallahassee, FL; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
