Michael Jay Kirby

Michael Jay Kirby December 29, 1952 February 23, 2009 Michael Jay Kirby, 56 of Live Oak, Florida passed away Monday, February 23, 2009, at Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park, FL following a lengthy illness. Born in 1952 with Down Syndrome, Michael enjoyed his childhood and many vacations at his parents’ home in Live Oak, FL. He resided in homes for the developmentally disabled from his teen years, including his most recent home with ARC Marion of Ocala, FL. Michael returned to Suwannee County and into the care of the Good Samaritan Center in Dowling Park since January 2007. Michael had a marvelous sense of humor and devoted his time to many well loved activities, including writing, coloring, and watching television. Nothing pleased Michael more than socializing with family and friends. He also adored music and was an enthusiastic dancer. He was predeceased by his parents, M. Jay and Audrey Kirby. Survivors include three sisters, Nadine (James) Fouraker, Wellborn, FL; Linda Gail Jernigan, Live Oak, FL; Marilyn (Richard) Jones, Live Oak, FL; one brother, Leslie (Sheryl) Kirby, Live Oak, FL and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held, 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 26, 2009 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Herrington officiating. Interment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery.
