Mike McNeil, age 66, of Mayo, FL passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Shands Live Oak following a sudden illness. He was born in Durham, N.C., raised in San Mateo, Fl moving to Mayo in 1995 from Palatka, FL. He worked as a Correctional Officer for the State of Florida and was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Vietnam. He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He loved flea marketing, traveling and attending volleyball games supporting his granddaughters and was a member of the Mayo Volleyball Boosters. At his hunting camp in Howard Creek, he was affectionally known as “The Camp Elder”.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon McNeil, Mayo, FL; three sons, Kevin (Jessica) McNeil, Sneads, FL; Richard Benstine, Metairie, LA; James Benstine, Mayo, FL; one daughter, Tracy (Ricky) Cloud, Sneads, FL; two sisters, Rita (Jackie) Arrington and Claudette McNeil, both of Palatka, FL; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and nine nieces and nephews.
Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, January 23, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
