Mrs. Lois Mildred White age 107 of Jacksonville Beach, Florida formerly a resident of Live Oak, Florida passed away peacefully May 13, 2015, at Avante Nursing Home. She was born on February 13, 1908 in Madison, Florida. Mildred is remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and a Christian woman.
Mildred resided in Live Oak as the wife of Samuel Jackson White, Jr., for 45 years. She was a vital member of First United Methodist Church of Live Oak and actively involved in many community organizations.
Before retirement Mildred was a free-lance Lecturer and teacher of design. She taught for the national council of Garden Clubs and was a judge with a master's status. Her versatile scale of points for abstract design may be found in "Program Patterns" for Garden Club. Mildred was the first Florida flower arrangement instructor to teach design at the University of Florida Short Course in Gainesville. She was an honorary member of the Live Oak Garden Club and the Flower Show Judge Council of District Three along with being a Patron member of the Jacksonville, Florida Garden Club. Mildred was also a Chairperson for 23 years of the interior decorating committee to the Advent Christian Village on the banks of the Suwannee River. Proudly she accepted the Paul Harris Fellow Award which was bestowed by the Rotary Club of Live Oak, Florida. Mildred was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. After her relocation from Live Oak to Jacksonville Beach in 1994 Mildred became an Affiliate Member of Palms Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville Beach, where she served as former teacher of the Friday Morning Women's Bible Study.
Mildred was predeceased by her loving husband Samuel Jackson White, Jr. She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth (Joe V.) DeSalvo, Grandchildren Betty (Richard) Miller, Patricia (Randy) DeLoach, Cindy (Terry) McGill, Jody (Robert) Peters, Great grandchildren, Richard Miller, III, Russell Miller, Shannon Murray, Brittany DeLoach, Brent DeLoach, Adam McGill, Cody McGill, Haley King, Tori Peters, Robert Peters and Caroline Peters. Great-great-grandchildren, Abigail and Madisyn Miller, Gabrielle and Bryna Murray.
In Lieu of flowers donations are asked to be made to First United Methodist Church of Live Oak, Florida.
The family wishes to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Avante Nursing Home for all the love and wonderful care provided to "mother" over the last 10 years. A special thank you to Pepi and Ish for their constant dedication.
Funeral services were held at First United Methodist Church, 311 South Ohio Avenue, Live Oak, Florida 32064 on Monday, May 18, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Pastor John Hay officiating. Internment followed in the Live Oak Cemetery. The family request bright and cheerful attire be worn to celebrate Mildred's long life.
