Roger Francis Jobin, age 90, of Live Oak, FL passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the V.A. Medical Center in Lake City, FL. He was a native of Torrington, CT moving to Live Oak in 1981 from Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force having served during WWII where he was Gunner on B-29 and flew many booming missions over mostly over Japan. He flew over Hiroshima the day after U.S. dropped the atomic bomb and his plane also did the weather report prior to dropping the bomb. He was always grateful to the U.S. Marines for taking the island of Iwo Jima because his B-29 had to land with only one engine, other engines were all shot up, otherwise the plane would have crash landed in the ocean. On one mission his plane had engine problems prior to taking off. The plane that took their place in the formation was subsequently shot down with no survivors. He received several awards from the U.S. Military including Distinguished Flying Cross. His plane and crew were chosen because of their heroism and accomplishments to be one of the planes to fly over the Navy Ship USS Missouri when the Japanese signed their unconditional surrender. Roger loved woodworking and building furniture, cabinets, etc. He owned and operated an upholstery business for many years and in his spare time, enjoyed fishing. He was predeceased by his wife, Elinore Jobin in 2007. He is survived by one daughter, Doreen (Jim) Mead, Live Oak; three sons, Raymond (Mara) Jobin, Westminster, SC; Tom (Eva) Jobin, Bakersville, NC; Donald (Dana) Punta Gordo, FL; eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, August 28, 2015 in the Brody Harris Memorial Chapel with Ellie & Lester Curry officiating.
