Truman Curt Mitchell

On May 27, 2018 MSgt Truman “Curt” Mitchell, USMC (Ret) was recalled to active duty by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age 86. He has commenced his tour guarding the streets of gold. While a Marine on watch has no friends, we are positive that the Lord will allow him to welcome those of us who called him beloved husband; Mrs. Dora Mitchell, Dad; SSG Joe Mitchell (Cathy), Mrs. Beth Vandenberg (Robert), infant son Johnny (deceased), LCDR (Ret) Reed Mitchell (Jean); Second Dad; Richard Googe (USMC, deceased), Ms. Annie McGuire (USAF, deceased), Ms. Pamela Schiefer (USAF), Mr. Henry Googe (Donna, USAF) plus 13 who called him Pawpaw and 11 more who called him Great Pawpaw; even though we are civilians or worse – Army, Navy, and Air Force. Aunt Ina, Ricky, Johnny, and Annie, please keep him company and find him a barber that can do a “high and tight” right.MSgt Mitchell served 26 years in the Marine Corps. He was a combat veteran of the Pusan Perimeter, the Incheon Landing, and the Chosin Reservoir during the Korean War. Additionally, he served 2 tours in Vietnam and then found a 15 year challenge serving with Escambia County Sheriff’s Department. While the titles of US Marine and Deputy Sheriff were important to him, Curt Mitchell was so much more; he was a good man, friend, husband and father. Friends and family are invited to an 11:00 AM graveside ceremony on Saturday, 02, June, 2018 at the Bixler Memorial Gardens East. 11075 County Rd 136 Dowling Park, FL 32064. The Pallbearers are Pastor Henry Googe, Reed Mitchell, Dennis Bonds, Craig Carter, and Darcy Chapman. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested to donate in his memory to the Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park, FL.Harris Funeral Home & Cremations, Inc. of Live Oak, Florida in charge of arrangements.Lord, we are so happy he is with You, but forgive us while we grieve for having to give him up.
