Verna Geane Atkins

Verna Geane Atkins, age 82, of Live Oak, FL passed away February 11, 2021 at the Lake City Medical Center in Lake City, FL following a brief illness.  She was born in St. Cloud, FL moving to Live Oak in 2001 from Orlando, FL.  She worked for the Florida Department of Transportation as a toll booth operator and was a member of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church.  Verna enjoyed spending time in her beautiful yard, gardening and working in her flowers and she also had a love for live stock and animals.  Her most enjoyable moments were the time she spent with her family.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gay and Vera Story; three brothers, Sonny Story, Early Story and Ernest Story and a daughter, Brenda G. Atkins.

She is survived by two sons, John Paul Atkins, Jr., Live Oak, FL and Michael Douglas (Melissa) Atkins, Leesville, SC; two daughters, Cinda South, Live Oak, FL and Brenda L. (Kevin) Wade, Lake City, FL; two sisters, Elaine Hahn, Polk City, FL and Gayle (Ary) Story, Okeechobee, FL; four grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held, 1:00 PM, Monday, February 15, 2021 at the Eastern Avenue Baptist Church in St. Cloud, FL with Rev. Jim Callen officiating.  Interment followed in the Mt. Peace Cemetery also in St. Cloud, FL.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral from 12:00 until 1:00 PM at the church.
