Wallace S. Townsend, 84 of Live Oak, Florida passed away Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2008, at Suwannee Valley Care Center, Haven Hospice in Lake City, FL. The Springfield, Mass. native moved to Live Oak, FL in 1954 where he became one of the original officers of the North Florida Telephone Company and completed his career serving as president of Alltel Florida, Inc. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served during WWII. Wally was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Zoe Townsend, Live Oak, FL; five sons, David (Anita) Townsend, Tampa, FL; Bill Townsend, Norfold, VA; Richard (Cheryl) Townsend, Green Cove Spring, FL; Doug (Peggy) Townsend, Mark (Robyn) Townsend, Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Debbie (Tommy) Williamson, Anderson, S.C.; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, First Advent Christian Church, or the Wallace S. Townsend Scholarship at North Florida Community College.
Funeral services were held 4:00 PM Sunday, Nov. 16th in the First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Tim Carver and Rev. Pomeroy Carter officiating. Private family interment was held at 1:00 PM in the Live Oak Cemetery prior to the services.
