OUR STORY

Our Beginnings

Brody Harris, Jr. started working with the original Suwannee Funeral Home and for Fred Green, the owner, in 1943. Henry Grant was then the manager, until his death in 1953. At this time Brody was promoted to manager and remained so until he and his wife, Dorothy, started Harris Funeral Home sometime after 1964. We were very saddened by the death of Brody on August 21st, 1988. Chip, Brody's oldest son, was raised in and around the funeral business. At age 14 he began working as an ambulance attendant at night and on weekends and working funerals after school. Chip, as a young adult, decided to go to mortuary school and graduated from Gupton-Jones Mortuary College, with honors, in 1978. Chip came home to marry the former Debbie Owen and she worked along side her husband as his secretary/receptionist. In late 1983, they purchased Harris Funeral Home from his parents and still today take great pride in helping those in need through very difficult times in their lives.
